Hello class of 2017!! I'm so honored and excited to be a part of your senior year. I hope this is your best year of high school. This is my 19th year teaching, and I can truly tell you all, I love my career and have loved being a teacher. I believe communication to be the basis of any great relationship, so lets make it a priority to communicate with each other this school year. You are always welcome in my classroom, and if I am busy with something, we will find the time to chat and work on whatever you need.
I'm passionate about reading. I like to write, but I know how hard it can be. I look forward to discussing books with you all and finding out what you like (and do not like) to read and your favorite genres. I will also help you with every and any aspect of writing to ensure your skills are more than college ready. I am open to suggestion with books to read. In fact, I've read many wonderful novels based on student recommendations.
I hope your summer was a balance between resting and activity. If you did something wonderful and amazing, I'd love to hear about it. If you stayed home and hung out, I'd love to hear about that too. Regardless, I hope you are recharged. On a personal note, I have a six year-old first grader who is the joy of my life. You'll hear me mention her often. She likes to draw on my board when she visits my classroom, so if there is an interesting drawing on it, chances are, she was here. She likes coming to my classroom.
“Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another’s skin, another’s voice, another’s soul.” — Joyce Carol Oates
“A book, too, can be a star, a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe.” — Madeleine L’Engle
